This article is a little outdated (from 2008), but I recommend that if you’re interested in programming or do a fair bit of programming - even if computer science is not your main discipline - you should look at the websites for all of these programming languages and choose one to learn. (If you have to pick only one, I recommend Haskell, as it’s the most mind-expanding. Clojure is my new personal favorite for practical projects.)
